Prescriptions

If you are feeling ill and believe you require new medication, please do not request a prescription to be phoned in for you. We cannot treat you accurately without a medical exam. In particular, since antibiotic resistance has become a large problem, you should be evaluated by a provider in order to determine if one is needed. Many infectious illnesses are caused by viruses and your body can usually heal without medication.

Electronic Prescriptions (eRx)

As part of our commitment to accurate and timely medical care, we use eRx; an electronic prescribing system adopted by most pharmacies, and now a national requirement. With eRx, your practitioner is able to send your prescriptions electronically to the pharmacy of your choice. This technology reduces the chance of medication errors and interactions with other treatments. The real benefit is convenience for you.

** When we take care of you in our offices, please tell us which pharmacy you prefer to use and your medication(s) will be sent immediately in a secure and efficient fashion by computer. You may still receive a paper prescription if you prefer.

Patient Education

Patient Education tools are a very important way for you to participate in your own health care. Keeping yourself well informed about health issues you may have or are trying to prevent can play an integral role in how your provider can help you attain and maintain good health. The most common way we offer patient education information is by giving you a handout about a specific condition while you are in the office. For those of you who like to get this information online, we have added a link to the American Academy of Family Physician’s patient education web site, which offers a wealth of information about many topics. We encourage you to explore this site to find answers to many questions you may have about your health. Click the icon below to access the AAFP patient education website.

House Calls
We occasionally will make house calls on an appointment basis for homebound patients. However, due to lack of equipment and time consumption of home visits, this will be based on individual needs. This can be discussed with your primary care physician.

During the Day
We consider it very important for us to be available to provide you with same-day medical care for medical concerns. Space is reserved in our providers’ schedules daily for these instances. We will accommodate your needs to the best of our ability, with your own doctor, an assistant or in our Acute Care Center.

Hospitalist Service
Most of our practitioners partner with the Hospitalist Program at Glens Falls Hospital. This allows us to concentrate on treating patients in our office and when possible avoid hospitalizations. We aim to keep you out of the hospital, but should you require a hospital stay, your care and length of time in the hospital is improved by having a full-time hospital specialist guiding your care. At discharge, your primary care doctor will receive information from the hospitalist service to help guide us in the follow-up care you may need.
